Step-by-Step Fishtail Braid

Feb 3, 2015

Have you ever scrolled through the pages of Pinterest looking longingly at the effortless fishtail braids that seem ever-so-complicated? You’re not alone. Our West 57th Salon Manager, Stephany, walks us through a simple step-by-step… (No hot tools needed!)

1. Start by finger combing your hair from the hairline to the back of your head. Lightly spray with hairspray (We recommend Oribe Superfine Hairspray!) to keep the hair out of your face.

2. Gather all your hair over one shoulder and divide it in half to make right and left section.

3. Begin the fishtail braid by taking a small section from under the left section. Cross it to the right, overlapping just like you would if you were doing a standard braid. Repeat on right side and continue overlapping pieces from both sides all the way down until you’re about an inch from the ends. Secure with an elastic band.
4. Finish your fishtail braid by gently tugging on your braid with your fingers to loosen it for an effortless (but glamorous!) look.

Stay tuned for more How to’s coming your way! And remember, you can always tweet us if you have questions or want to see a specific How to. We love hearing from you!
